His Excellency,
Mr. Carlos Augusto de Melo, is the President of The People's Republic of
Porto Capital. At the time of the Peaceful Revolution. he was one it's
core leaders Once the Revolution had made it's goal, the other
leaders granted him the leadership of the nation. A few months later, a
referendum took place, and the people voted him for the
Presidency.
Mr. Melo was
born on 260 in the city of Ouahran (nowadays Oran), capital of
the Mauretanian Empire. He graduated on Economics by the University
of the same city on 285. Shortly after that, he enlisted
on the Mauretanian Air Force, where, with his brilliant
service, got the rank of Wingleader on the year 298, a few months
before the colapse of the Empire.
He also saw, a
few years later, the rise and fall of the Republic of Brolecia and,
later, of the People's Republic of Extremo. Then, the Peaceful
Revolution Movement began it's activities, and he became one of
it's most active members. With it's uprising, on December 301,
Mr. Melo was chosen as the first President of The People's Republic
of Porto Capital.
The President is the Head of
State and Government of our nation, elected by the people for five-year
terms. He may pass legislation, open an close diplomatic relations,
appoint the ambassadors to the other countries, call for Senate
sessions, and command the nation's military in case of
war.
